Elon Musk Highlights Indian Talent’s Role in U.S. Tech and Economy

NEW DELHI, India — Tesla CEO Elon Musk acknowledged the major contributions of Indian professionals to the U.S. technology and business sectors. Speaking on a podcast hosted by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Musk emphasized that skilled individuals of Indian origin—particularly engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs—have significantly helped shape numerous industries in the United States.

Musk pointed out that the U.S. has “benefited immensely” from Indian talent and explained that his companies often face difficulties finding highly skilled workers domestically. Hiring globally helps address that shortage.

He expressed strong support for the H-1B visa program, which allows U.S. businesses to employ foreign professionals in specialized roles, but warned that some outsourcing firms have misused it. “We need to stop the gaming of the system,” he said, while adding he is against eliminating the program.

Discussing U.S. immigration policy, Musk criticized past administration efforts regarding both legal and illegal immigration. He said uncontrolled borders lead to “massive amounts of illegal immigration” and could cause negative societal impacts.

Musk also addressed broader economic concerns, warning that the country’s rising national debt is unsustainable. He believes large-scale artificial intelligence and robotics are essential long-term tools to manage U.S. financial challenges.

He concluded by urging Indian entrepreneurs to focus on building valuable products and services rather than chasing financial gain, saying true financial success follows meaningful impact on society.
