Elon Musk Criticizes Misuse of H-1B Visas Yet Opposes Ban

Elon Musk recently commented on the misuse of the H-1B visa system by certain companies. He expressed concern that some firms are “gaming” the system by hiring foreign workers not for their unique skills, but instead to reduce labor costs. Musk argued that this practice goes against the original intent of the visa program, which is to bring in highly skilled professionals who fill roles difficult to staff with local talent.

Despite his criticism of the way the H-1B program is being exploited, Musk made it clear that he’s not in favor of completely shutting it down. Instead, he suggests reforming the system to ensure it truly benefits both American industry and skilled foreign workers. Musk emphasized the need to strike a balance—welcoming talent from abroad while protecting the interests of domestic workers.

His comments come amid ongoing debates about immigration reforms related to employment in the United States. Musk believes the U.S. should continue to attract the “best and brightest” from overseas, but under fair and transparent rules that prevent misuse of the system. He suggests changes so that the program benefits American innovation rather than serving as a loophole for cutting salaries.
