US Congresswoman Advocates for Ending H-1B Visas Over Indian Majority

U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has proposed ending the H-1B visa program, following a viral Fox News segment by host Will Cain. In the broadcast, Cain criticized large corporations—particularly in the tech industry—for using the visa system to hire cheaper foreign workers, which he argues comes at the expense of American jobseekers.

Citing statistics from the segment, Greene highlighted that 70% of H-1B visas are granted to Indian nationals, 10–15% to Chinese citizens, and around 80% of the approvals go to entry-level or junior roles. She argued such positions should be given to young American workers instead. Cain echoed these concerns, suggesting the program is misrepresented as serving a scarcity of domestic skilled labor, when in reality, it often fills lower-level roles.

Some conservatives, including Oculus and Anduril founder Palmer Luckey, have called the program a tool for exploiting foreign workers. Meanwhile, nearly 200 new investigations into potential H-1B misuse are underway by the Labor Department.

The debate drew further attention when former President Donald Trump defended the program in a recent interview. Despite traditionally positioning himself against mass immigration, Trump affirmed the H-1B system’s value in bringing skilled labor into the U.S. His stance was met with backlash from conservative figures who claim the program lowers wages and limits American employment opportunities. Trump’s disagreement with Greene on this and other issues led him to withdraw his endorsement of her, calling her a “ranting lunatic.”

The controversy places the future of the H-1B visa program at the center of heated national debates on immigration, jobs, and economic policy.
