US Lawmaker Resigning After Clash with Trump Over H-1B Visas

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced that she will resign from her position in the U.S. House of Representatives in January, cutting short her third term. Her resignation follows a public falling out with former President Donald Trump, sparked in part by Greene’s move to introduce a bill to end the H-1B visa program, which benefits mostly Indian professionals.

Long seen as a close ally of Trump and a strong voice in the MAGA movement, Greene’s recent stance on foreign work visas and demand to release the Epstein files has caused deep divisions. Trump recently revoked his endorsement of Greene, calling her a “lunatic” and criticizing her for constant complaints and controversial positions that, he claims, do not reflect “America First” values.

Greene argues that Trump’s current policies, including support for H-1B visas and allowing a large number of Chinese students to study in the U.S., betray the core MAGA principles. She emphasized the need for focusing solely on domestic issues and putting American jobs and students first.

The split highlights a broader divide within the Republican Party, especially over the future of America’s immigration and foreign talent policies. Greene, now distancing herself from Trump, claims to be redefining “America First” independently of him. Meanwhile, Trump has softened his stance on H-1B, citing the need for skilled global talent, which also drew criticism from MAGA hardliners.

What was once perceived as a solid political partnership between Trump and Greene has now devolved into a public dispute, marking a significant shift in the conservative political landscape.
