Campbell Soup Company has placed one of its senior executives, Martin Bally, on leave amid an internal investigation into allegations of offensive and racist remarks. Bally, the Vice President of Information Technology, is accused of mocking Indian employees and claiming that the company’s products are intended for “poor people.”
The accusations were made in a lawsuit filed by Robert Garza, a former cybersecurity analyst at Campbell, who said he was fired after reporting Bally’s behavior. According to the lawsuit, Bally made negative comments about Campbell’s food quality and criticized Indian staff, referring to them with offensive language and stereotyping their abilities.
The incident allegedly occurred during a meeting in November 2024, where Garza approached Bally to discuss his compensation. Garza reported the remarks to his manager in January 2025 but was soon terminated from his position. His legal team also shared an audio recording believed to be of this conversation, where Bally reportedly made degrading comments about both Campbell’s products and his colleagues.
Campbell Soup Company responded, stating that the comments do not reflect the company’s values and are not tolerated under any circumstances. The company emphasized its commitment to high-quality ingredients and denied claims made in the recording, asserting the use of 100% real chicken sourced from USDA-approved suppliers.
Campbell expressed pride in its products and employees, and continues to investigate the matter thoroughly.
