On the “People by WTF” podcast with Nikhil Kamath, Elon Musk emphasized how Indian talent has significantly benefited the U.S., especially in advanced industries like AI and space. He praised the contributions of Indian-origin professionals at companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, X, and xAI, calling them essential to American innovation.
Musk rejected the belief that immigrants take jobs from locals, instead highlighting a global shortage of highly skilled workers. He stressed the importance of attracting top talent, regardless of nationality, and mentioned that his companies offer competitive salaries to ensure quality.
While supporting the H-1B visa program, Musk criticized outsourcing firms for misusing it—underpaying workers and exploiting loopholes. Rather than scrapping the program, he recommended reforms like higher wages and stricter enforcement to stop abuse and protect genuine talent.
In a broader vision of the future, Musk suggested that AI advancements could make work optional in 10–20 years, shifting society toward abundance-driven models. He also touched on personal connections, revealing his partner is half-Indian and sharing his admiration for Indian physicist C.V. Raman.
Musk further discussed the evolution of the X platform into a “global town square” and backed free trade over protectionist policies. He maintained that immigration policies should balance openness with fair safeguards to ensure mutual growth and ethical labor practices.
His message urged collaboration across borders, calling for immigration reforms that uphold dignity, transparency, and global progress.
