Elon Musk recently praised the significant contributions of skilled Indian professionals to the United States, highlighting their role in advancing American technology and business. Speaking on a podcast hosted by Nikhil Kamath, Musk noted that engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs from India have made a major impact.
When asked about the increasing number of Indian-origin leaders in major Western firms, Musk stated, “America has benefitted immensely from talented Indians that have come to America.” He pointed out that the U.S. has long been a recipient of valuable talent from India.
The conversation then shifted to immigration policies and the growing perception of anti-immigrant sentiments in the U.S. Musk attributed the change partly to current border policies, criticizing the Biden administration for what he described as a lack of border control. He said this has led to a surge in illegal immigration, driven by economic opportunities and social benefits.
Musk also addressed concerns about the H-1B visa system and its misuse, noting that these issues have influenced calls for stricter immigration laws. However, he disagreed with the fear that foreign workers are replacing American jobs, arguing instead that there is always a severe shortage of highly skilled professionals.
“There’s always a scarcity of talented people,” Musk said. “Companies have difficulty finding capable individuals for complex work. More talented people would be helpful.” He reinforced his belief that the challenge lies in hiring skilled individuals, not in job competition between locals and immigrants.
