India and US Finalize Multi-Crore Deal for Naval Helicopter Support

“`html

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) of India has signed Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOAs) with the United States government for a five-year sustainment support package for the Indian Navy’s MH-60R multi-mission helicopters. The agreements, valued at approximately ₹7,995 crore, were finalized under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme in New Delhi on 28 November, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

Under this new agreement, the Indian Navy will receive continued logistical and technical support, which includes supply of spare parts, specialized equipment, training, and repair services. The package also provides for the creation of intermediate-level maintenance and component repair facilities within India.

The Ministry emphasized that establishing these capabilities domestically will reduce reliance on foreign support and strengthen the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by fostering self-sufficiency. It also opens new avenues for indigenous product development and service delivery through small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local industry partners.

This long-term support aims to improve operational readiness by enhancing the availability, reliability, and performance of the MH-60R helicopters. These advanced aircraft are key assets of the Indian Navy, equipped for multi-role missions, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW).

With this sustainment plan in place, the Navy will be better positioned to deploy these helicopters from both naval bases and ships in various operational scenarios, thereby boosting mission effectiveness.
