Former Dogecoin lead and Republican candidate for Ohio governor, Vivek Ramaswamy, recently emphasized the unique value of the “American Dream” while addressing his supporters. He stated that no other countries, not even Canada, Britain, or China, have a national dream quite like it, saying, “It’s called the American Dream for a reason. It’s what makes American exceptionalism possible.”
Ramaswamy, who is of Indian descent, has faced criticism from certain far-right segments within the Republican base, including racist and xenophobic remarks. Some have even gone so far as to question his citizenship or demand his deportation. Despite this, Ramaswamy continues to hold significant backing from fellow Republicans and has received support from former President Donald Trump for his 2026 gubernatorial run against Democratic candidate Amy Acton.
Online, his remarks sparked mixed reactions. Critics mocked the idea of labeling basic aspirations as a “dream” and pointed out the challenges young Americans face, like unaffordable housing. Some users dismissed the idea of a unique dream, noting that hope and ambition exist in every country. Others resorted to hostile rhetoric, targeting Ramaswamy’s heritage and immigration status.
Despite the backlash, Ramaswamy continues to present himself as a defender of American ideals and envisions a country where patriotism and opportunity are open to all, regardless of background.
