Indian Tech Workers Face Travel Warnings Amid H-1B Visa Issues

Donald Trump’s renewed H-1B visa policies are creating major challenges for thousands of Indian tech workers in the U.S. What was once a routine trip to India for visa stamping is now a high-risk journey that could prevent workers from returning to their jobs, homes, and families. New rules have introduced a $100,000 annual fee for H-1B holders, along with stricter security checks and expanded social media screenings, significantly delaying visa processing.

U.S. consulates across India have either cancelled or postponed thousands of H-1B and H-4 visa appointments, with some rescheduled as far out as 2026 or 2027. As a result, many professionals are stuck outside the country, uncertain of when or if they can return. In response, top tech companies such as Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are advising employees who rely on work visas to avoid international travel and seek legal guidance before leaving the U.S.

The impact is far-reaching, causing disruption to families, temporary loss of income, and delays in critical tech projects. Indian professionals now find themselves at the center of a growing immigration crisis, as changes reshape the lives of workers and the technology industry alike.
