Iran has suspended the visa waiver facility for Indian citizens holding ordinary passports, effective from November 22. This action follows reports of Indian nationals being misled with false promises of employment or onward travel to other countries, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Many individuals fell victim to fraudulent schemes by agents who used the visa waiver to lure them to Iran. Upon arrival, some were even kidnapped for ransom. In response, the Iranian government has revoked the visa-free entry privilege for Indian travelers to prevent further misuse by such criminal networks.
From now on, Indian citizens must obtain a valid visa to enter or transit through Iran. The MEA has strongly advised Indian nationals to remain cautious and not to trust offers of visa-free travel or employment in Iran made by unknown agents. The warning specifically urges travelers to avoid those promising transit to third countries via Iran.
All travelers are encouraged to verify all information through official channels and not rely on informal or unauthorized sources.
