Changing Dynamics of US Visas Impacting Indian Relationships

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri recently announced that Meta platforms, including Instagram and Threads, will begin downranking political content in users’ feeds unless they choose to see more of it. This update aims to create a more enjoyable experience for most users who prefer less political material in their social media scrolling. The change will affect recommendations—posts Instagram highlights in Explore, Reels, and Feed from accounts users don’t follow.

According to Mosseri, the decision is based on user feedback, which suggests that many prefer to engage with non-political content. Political posts from accounts people already follow will still appear, just not highlighted as prominently in recommendations. However, users who wish to see political content can change their settings to adjust their preferences.

This new approach is consistent across Instagram, Threads, and Facebook. Meta clarified it will reduce the visibility of political content in suggested areas for Facebook and Instagram users who haven’t opted in. The goal is to maintain a healthier online environment by managing the type of content promoted to users, especially during sensitive times or in politically charged environments.

Creators and public figures who frequently share political content can track how their posts are being affected through Meta’s account status tools. Adjustments to how political content is displayed will be rolled out gradually to give users and creators time to adapt to the changes.

This move follows similar strategies from other tech platforms aiming to filter content in a way that aligns with user preferences, while balancing freedom of expression with content moderation.
