Easy Steps to Update Your Address with USCIS Effortlessly

If you’ve submitted an immigration benefit request with USCIS, it’s important to update your address as soon as you move. This ensures you continue to receive all correspondence and benefits on time. All non-citizens in the U.S. must report any address changes to USCIS within 10 days, except for A and G visa holders and visa waiver program visitors.

USCIS recommends using your USCIS online account to submit your address change. Updating your address through the U.S. Postal Service does not update it with USCIS, and USPS won’t forward mail from USCIS. Use USPS’s ZIP Code lookup tool to enter your address correctly using standard formatting.

Most individuals can use the Enterprise Change of Address (E-COA) tool within their USCIS online account. Doing so meets the legal requirement and helps prevent delays in processing. If you don’t have an online account, visit USCIS’s website to create one. You can still use the online account to update your address even if you applied by mail. Be sure to enter all receipt numbers from your pending applications to apply the update correctly.

Alternatively, you can submit a paper Form AR-11 by mail. However, this method is slower and less efficient as your records won’t be automatically updated in the USCIS system. Online submission is strongly recommended.

Some individuals may need to follow special procedures to change their address, including those involved in adoptions, consular processing, victims of abuse or trafficking, attorneys, and civil surgeons. Refer to USCIS guidance for their specific requirements.
