Elon Musk recently highlighted how skilled Indian professionals have significantly contributed to the growth of the United States in the fields of science, engineering, and business. Speaking on a podcast with Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, Musk acknowledged the positive impact Indian-origin experts have had on the American economy. He remarked that the U.S. has “immensely benefited” from India’s talent.
When Kamath brought up the increasing number of Indian-origin leaders in top global companies, Musk reiterated his view, emphasizing the important role Indians have played in America’s development, especially in technology and entrepreneurship.
The conversation then explored the shifting views around immigration in the U.S. Musk commented on the rise in anti-immigration sentiment, suggesting it stemmed from what he described as relaxed border controls under the current administration. He noted that these policies might have encouraged illegal immigration due to the promise of better opportunities and social benefits.
Discussing the H-1B visa program, Musk acknowledged concerns about its misuse but argued that, in his experience, there is a continuous shortage of skilled labor. He dismissed fears that foreign workers take jobs from Americans, saying that finding talented individuals remains a major challenge for companies. According to him, more skilled people are needed to take on complex tasks.
Musk concluded by reinforcing his point that the concern over foreign workers replacing American talent is exaggerated. He stressed that the demand for capable and skilled professionals continues to surpass the supply.
