Tesla CEO Elon Musk has praised the contributions of skilled Indian professionals to the United States, particularly in the fields of engineering, science, and business. In an interview on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, Musk stated that America has greatly benefited from Indian talent, especially across the technology and entrepreneurship sectors.
Musk acknowledged the positive role of the H-1B visa program in attracting global talent but noted that certain outsourcing companies have exploited the system. He emphasized that while misuse needs to be addressed, scrapping the program would harm the U.S. economy.
On U.S. immigration policies, Musk criticized the Biden administration for lax border controls and rising illegal immigration, warning of a “negative selection effect” that allows even criminals to enter. He argued that while some fear immigrants are taking jobs from locals, the real issue is a shortage of skilled workers. Foreign professionals, he explained, help fill vital gaps in the workforce.
Musk clarified that companies like his seek the best talent globally, not cheaper labor. He also encouraged aspiring Indian entrepreneurs to focus on creating value rather than chasing money, emphasizing that financial success follows meaningful contributions to society. “Be a net contributor. Create more than you consume,” Musk advised.
Finally, he reminded future entrepreneurs to expect challenges and potential failure, but to stay committed to building something valuable. “Put in the hard work, create value, and keep trying,” Musk concluded, underscoring resilience as key to success.
