Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently highlighted the significant contributions of talented Indians to the United States, particularly in the fields of technology and business. Speaking on a podcast hosted by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Musk praised Indian engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs for shaping key industries and strengthening the U.S. economy.
He emphasized the importance of the H-1B visa program, stating that while the system is essential, it has faced misuse by certain outsourcing companies. Musk clarified that the issue lies in how it’s used, not the program itself, and he opposes shutting it down. “Removing H-1B would be harmful to the U.S. economy,” he said.
Musk also touched on the challenges of domestic hiring, noting that his businesses frequently face skill shortages and rely on global talent to fill gaps. He dismissed concerns that foreign workers take jobs from Americans, arguing that highly skilled talent is vital for growth.
On broader economic issues, Musk warned about the U.S. national debt, calling it “insanely high” and unsustainable. He believes advanced AI and robotics could be the key to long-term financial stability.
Finally, Musk advised Indian entrepreneurs to focus on creating valuable products and services rather than chasing money. By contributing meaningfully to society, he said, financial rewards will naturally follow.
