The Trump administration is planning a new policy that could make it harder for immigrants from countries affected by the President’s travel ban to receive green cards and other immigration benefits.
Based on internal documents from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) would now consider conditions in countries listed in the travel ban as “significant negative factors” during the evaluation of various immigration requests.
This change means that people from those countries might face additional challenges and scrutiny when applying for immigration benefits. The aim appears to be adding another layer of restriction for individuals seeking lawful permanent residency or other immigration-related approvals.
If implemented, this policy shift could have a strong impact on immigrants from specific nations, reducing their chances of successfully navigating the immigration system. Critics argue this move may unfairly target individuals based on nationality, rather than individual merits or qualifications.
