Elon Musk Highlights US Gains from Indian Talent on Podcast

Elon Musk recently shared his views on immigration and talent during a podcast with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath. He emphasized that the United States has greatly benefited from skilled professionals, especially from India. Musk expressed that there is a consistent shortage of talented individuals, and bringing in more skilled people globally would be beneficial for solving complex problems.

While discussing the H-1B visa program, Musk acknowledged that some outsourcing companies have misused it. However, he firmly stated that shutting down the H-1B program is not the answer. Instead, the focus should be on fixing the loopholes and stopping the misuse. According to Musk, many U.S. companies, including his own like Tesla and SpaceX, actively seek the best talent from around the world.

The H-1B visa, widely used by tech firms, has helped millions of skilled workers from countries like India and China find opportunities in the U.S. In fact, India accounted for 71% of these visas last year. Despite criticism, even former President Trump recently acknowledged the importance of skilled immigrants in industries like chip manufacturing and defense technology.

Musk also touched on the need for border controls. He criticized the Biden administration’s approach, suggesting that lack of enforcement had led to increased illegal immigration and created unfair incentives. Musk argued that strong border control is essential for maintaining national integrity and order.

In summary, Elon Musk supports skilled immigration but calls for reforms to prevent system abuse and emphasizes the importance of structured border policies.
