Elon Musk Supports H-1B Visas Highlights Indian Talent’s US Impact

Elon Musk has expressed strong support for the H-1B visa program, emphasizing that the United States has greatly benefited from skilled Indian professionals. He warned that shutting down the program would negatively affect America’s economy and innovation.

Speaking on the ‘People by WTF’ podcast with Nikhil Kamath, Musk highlighted how Indian talent has significantly contributed to the U.S., especially in the tech industry. While acknowledging some misuse of the H-1B system, particularly by outsourcing firms, he firmly opposed ending the program and called for fixing loopholes instead.

Musk’s comments come as the U.S. government increases scrutiny on the H-1B visa process, which mainly impacts Indian tech workers and medical professionals. Previously, policies were introduced that added higher visa fees and restrictions, creating concern among foreign workers.

Addressing the broader immigration situation, Musk stated that uncontrolled borders under the Biden administration created incentives for illegal immigration. He criticized both political extremes — the left for promoting open borders and the right for fearing that skilled immigrants take away domestic jobs.

Musk believes there’s a real shortage of highly skilled talent and that the focus should be on welcoming the best individuals globally. At his companies, he said, the goal is to hire top talent and offer above-average pay, not to cut costs.

When asked for advice to young Indian entrepreneurs, Musk encouraged them to focus on creating value. “Aim to be a net contributor to society. If you provide something useful, success will follow,” he said.
