Tesla CEO Elon Musk praised the vital role skilled Indians have played in the growth of the United States, particularly in technology and business. On a podcast with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Musk acknowledged the significant contributions of Indian engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs in shaping America’s innovation landscape.
He emphasized that the U.S. has greatly benefited from Indian talent and that skilled immigrants help fill vital gaps in the workforce, especially when companies face a shortage of highly qualified professionals. Musk noted that his companies hire globally for talent, not for cheaper labor, stating, “We are just trying to get the most talented people around the world.”
Commenting on the H-1B visa program, Musk said that while it supports innovation, some firms have misused the system. He called for regulation to stop such practices but opposed shutting down the program, warning it would harm the U.S. economy.
Musk also criticized the current U.S. immigration policy, stating that weak border control under the Biden administration has encouraged illegal immigration and created faulty incentive structures.
Advising aspiring Indian entrepreneurs, Musk encouraged focusing on creating meaningful value rather than just chasing financial success. “Make more than you take. Be a net contributor to society,” he said, adding that building a successful company involves hard work and resilience, with failure being a possible part of the journey.
