US Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Double H-1B Visas to 130,000

A U.S. lawmaker has introduced a new bill known as the HIRE Act, aimed at significantly increasing the number of H-1B visas issued annually. The proposed legislation seeks to double the current H-1B visa cap, which would allow more skilled foreign workers to be employed in the United States, especially in the tech and engineering sectors that depend heavily on such talent.

The bill also includes reforms to streamline the visa process and reduce bureaucracy. Supporters argue that this will help address the growing shortage of high-tech labor in the country and enable American companies to remain globally competitive. Moreover, the proposed changes aim to attract the best international talent and strengthen the U.S. economy by filling critical job roles.

Critics, however, express concerns that increasing the number of H-1B visas may lead to wages being suppressed for domestic workers and a lack of job opportunities for American citizens. The bill could face opposition from lawmakers who believe in stricter immigration policies.

Still, the HIRE Act is gaining attention as industries continue to push for greater access to specialized foreign professionals. The bill has yet to be debated in Congress, but if passed, it could reshape how the U.S. handles high-skilled immigration.
